Firefox Security Bugs Plugged

Warning. Your Firefox will probably update sometime today.

Mozilla developers released the latest version of their Firefox browser Tuesday, version 3.0.6, which fixes several security bugs in the software.

The most critical issues are bugs in the browser’s JavaScript and layout engines that could be exploited by attackers to run unauthorized software on a victim’s PC, Mozilla said. The flaws also affect Mozilla’s Thunderbird e-mail client and SeaMonkey Internet software suite.

Amazon’s Best Ever Holiday Season

Apparently, not all of the .com’s are having troubles.

In December, Amazon.com said it was having its “best ever” holiday season. On Thursday, it offered proof.

The company posted strong earnings in a brutal climate that has punished nearly every other retailer, online and offline. Amazon’s net profit rose 9 percent, to $225 million, or 52 cents a share, in the quarter that ended on Dec. 31, up from $207 million, or 48 cents, in the same quarter a year earlier.

If you’ve seen any of the deals on Amazon lately, you’ll understand why they did good. We ordered three items from them for 75% off what we would have paid anywhere else. That was a deal, and that’s why I check Amazon first when I am looking for specific items.

Something To Look Forward To?

I’m not sure if I would be too excited about this news.

On the Engineering Windows 7 blog this week, Microsoft again noted that it was planning to give the public a Release Candidate of Windows 7 before the final version is ready. In other words, there is not going to be a “Beta 2,” and the public would only see one public beta build: Windows 7 build 7000. However, a timeline for these versions is not disclosed: “This post is in no way an announcement of a ship date, change in plans, or change in our previously described process, but rather it provides additional detail and a forward looking view of the path to RTM and General Availability.”

Just because Windows 7 is the most stable beta they have released, that doesn’t mean it will be the most stable final product they ever release. Color me skeptical.

Something tells me I will have better luck planting Plum trees that I will upgrading to Windows 7.
