Today The App Store, Tomorrow The iPhone

The App Store opened today, for all of the lucky dogs who have a first generation iPhone, and the luckier dogs who will be getting the iPhone 3G tomorrow.

Apple’s new App Store turned on its virtual lights Thursday, featuring third-party applications for the iPhone and the iPod. The store is intended to support developers who are creating applications for the iPhone. The store is also reportedly helping developers get their products into final shape.

I sold my T-Mobile Wing, and a couple other old cell phones, just so I would have the money on hand to get a new iPhone tomorrow. Sadly, several things came up this month and I was forced to spend the money, so I will be waiting a couple weeks before I get my shiny new toy that I have long been craving.

But I haven’t been this excited since I was 17 and found out that a new pimple cream was on the market. Oh happy day!

I’m Salivating Over Here

It seems there is a rumor that Apple will announce the new Mac Fusion today at WWDC. Better yet, those rumors say it’s aimed at the developer crowd.

I don’t care if it’s just a rumor. I WANT. I haven’t wanted anything this bad, since I was watching my weight last year, contemplating taking diet pills, and staring a warm chocolate brownie in the eye.

On WWDC Eve, we at TUAW are hard at work keeping an eye out for the unknown and unexpected. We just received a tip showing what appears to be the Mac Nano computer that we’ve all wanted — and it looks to be aimed towards the developer crowd.

iTunes Is The Place For Music

This is pretty impressive news if you ask me. Anyone who can beat Wal-Mart is a force to be reckoned with. Of course, even with an iPod, I don’t buy my music from Apple. Maybe soon though.

Apple Inc.’s iTunes online music store vaulted past Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in February to become the top overall music retailer in the U.S., a market research firm said Thursday.

Best Buy Co. was ranked behind Wal-Mart and iTunes, with Amazon.com and Target tied for the fourth spot in January and February, according to consumer surveys conducted by The NPD Group.

The firm tabulated units sold, counting every 12 digital downloads as one CD. It did not count sales revenue, nor mobile music sales.

They counted 12 songs as one CD? Is that the average now per CD? Wow. No wonder people are sick of paying all that money for the actual CD. Is it really news though, that iTunes is the place to go for music? I wonder when I’ll be able to purchase my car insurance at Wal-Mart. Kidding!

My Favorite Part Of The Keynote

While I do not own a mac (yet), I always get excited when Steve Jobs delivers the keynote speech at MacWorld. Wow. Am I jazzed this year. Movie rentals. Okay, so a lot of us suspected he was going to announce it. To see it in action, today, right now. A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

Apple Inc (AAPL.O) unveiled a lightweight laptop about three-quarters of an inch thick on Tuesday and said it would start renting movies over the Internet, moving the iPhone and iPod maker into a very competitive market.

With Web movie rentals, Apple takes on DVD-by-mail rental service Netflix, which also allows online viewing, as well as a host of others eager to make it possible to watch movies easily and instantly over the Web.

According to Jobs, movies will be $2.99 or $3.99 depending on the film, and that rocks, cuz sometimes I just wanna sit and watch a movie, and I don’t want to deal with Netflix, or Blockbuster, or any of that crap. I just want to choose it, and have it on my iPod to watch. Apple does that for me.

Thanks Steve!
