Books On The iPad Locked Down?
I’m no fan of DRM, but I bet this has no bearing on sales, not initially anyway.
The iBook store, the marketplace for electronic books on Apple’s forthcoming iPad, will sell e-books wrapped in digital rights management software, according to sources quoted in the L.A. Times. Apple phased out DRM songs from the iTunes store a year ago, but a majority of publishers are expected to use FairPlay copy protection software for their e-books.
E-books for the iPad have been the subject of debate since Steve Jobs announced the tablet in late January. First, there was the spat over e-book prices, with Apple’s agency model taking Amazon by storm. Many said that Amazon’s DRM was a drawback, but now reports say Apple will use similar technology for its iBook store.
I Want An iPad
The one thing I want with any remaining tax refund, is an iPad. I know I am a geek, a nerd, whatever. I spent years trying every one of the acne solutions out there and I still ended up a nerd. A better looking nerd too, mind you.
Walt Disney Co. president and chief executiveRobert Iger said Tuesday that Apple’s new iPad tablet computer may prove to be a “game changer” for the entertainment and media industry.
“We find that the iPad has a lot of potential,” Iger said in a conference call after Disney announced a first-quarter net profit of 844 million dollars, virtually unchanged from a year ago.
“It could be a game changer in terms of enabling us to create essentially new forms of content,” Iger said. “It will be a great device to play games and watch videos because of the quality of the screen.
A game changer. Yep. Contrary to what others are saying, I think it will be too. If it’s not the best device of its kind, Apple will at the very least inspire some really cool alternatives from their competitors.

Thank goodness I don’t need to jailbreak my iPhone.
Apple released version 3.1.3 of the iPhone operating system (OS) on Tuesday, much to jailbreakers dismay. The update, which is available now via iTunes, fixes a number of known bugs, patches known security issues, and improves various iPhone features. However, despite the good news for the majority of regular iPhone owners, the upgrade has posed something of a problem for those who have taken the notorious jailbreaking route.
With progress comes setbacks, I suppose.
New App For Twitter
I’ve been using Tweetie for Mac for a few days now myself.
The interface is very simple, clean and Mac-like, which is to be expected since it is a native app and not done via the Adobe Air process that some of the desktop applications use such as Snitter and Twhirl. Granted, it doesn’t have the flash that some of the other applications have, but that may be a reason why it is so nimble and responsive. It is also very unobtrusive, working in an adjustable window that takes up a minimum of space, yet does quite a lot in the process.
I am liking it thus far.

Could this be the start of something big? Like the return of Steve Jobs?
Sphere: Related ContentMore than three months into a medical leave from Apple Inc, Chief Executive Steve Jobs remains closely involved in key aspects of running the company, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook runs the day-to-day operations, but Jobs has continued to work on the company’s most important strategies and products from home, the newspaper said in a story on its website.
Another New iPhone On The Way?
Rumors are rising, but does anyone really think this (if true) is surprising?
Sphere: Related ContentWith anticipation high for a new iPhone this summer, rumors are rising after a recent Apple purchase from Samsung. Apple bought 100 million 8GB NAND flash chips, which DigiTimes says points to increased storage for the iPhone.
Flash-chip suppliers Hynix, Intel, Micron and Toshiba may also have had a part in the Apple purchase. The order fueled rumors that Apple is building a bigger-memory iPhone, likely with 32GB of storage, to share shelf space with the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G models already on the market.
MacHeist 3
They released the MacHeist 3 Bundle tonight.
This year you can get almost $600 worth of software for $39. If you’re an Apple user, you best get your butt over there and grab your bundle. You only have 14 days and 25% of each sale goes to charity.

Cut and Paste finally comes to the iPhone.
Apple Inc. is updating its software for iPhones so that users can cut, copy and paste text — a basic computing feature that was missing from the gadget that seems to do everything.
At an iPhone event for journalists Tuesday at Apple headquarters, the company also pledged to broaden the way that third-party software programmers can build and sell content for the device.
That’s not all they announced either. I’ll post more tomorrow or the next day.

Childish, if true.
While we knew that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer had forbidden his offspring from using competitors’ products like iPods and, yes, even Google, we always thought his predecessor, Bill Gates, hovered above the fray, unconcerned with such earthly matters. Alas, it seems our otherworldly faith in Mr. Microsoft might have been misplaced.
I wonder if he keeps all of his house rules on a compact flash card too? You know, just in case his system crashes. heh.
Many PC users think Mac users are snobby. Maybe they’re just more mature.
