You Buy Anything These Days

Whether you’re looking for a new computer, designer clothes, or ephedra diet pills, you can find anything on the internet these days.

Of course, before you can buy things on the internet, you need to be on the internet, right?

Hewlett-Packard Co.’s new tablet might look a little bit like Apple Inc.’s latest blockbuster gadget but it’s not meant to be an iPad killer.

HP, the world’s largest computer maker, started selling the Slate 500 on Thursday. It costs $799 and, like the iPad, has a touch-sensitive screen and no keyboard. But unlike the iPad, the device is aimed squarely at business users.

iPad killer? Probably not. In fact, definitely not. Now go rest before it’s time to exercise.

Teaching Myself A Lesson

Many years ago, more than I really want to remember, I wanted to be a teacher. In fact, it was my job of choice from the time I was in 3rd grade, until I graduated from high school.

Sometime in my sophmore year of college, I changed course. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I was pretty sure I no longer wanted to be a teacher.

I’ve been thinking about going to back to school for the past few years. I have never had the time to focus on continuing my education, but I think with the ability to obtain an online teaching degree or a degree in some other field, I could probably accomplish that goal.

Western Governors Online University has several online degree programs, all of which can be completed at your own pace, at a remarkable price. Who knows, I may become a teacher yet… That’s something I should have done 25 years ago.

Slow Down, Take It Easy

They seem to have meters and devices for everything these days. They have them to tell when you are ovulating, they have them to tell you when you’re pregnant, but I doubt they’ll ever come out with one that will automatically send out birth announcements at the exact moment your baby is born.

They do, however, now have one to tell youwhen you eat too much too fast.

A new device aimed at discouraging eaters from bolting their food is a useful tool in combatting childhood obesity, according to a study published online on Wednesday by the British Medical Journal (BMJ).

Doctors carried out an 18-month assessment of a small computer-linked scale called a Mandometer, which has been developed by scientists at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute.

It’s Easy When You’re Looking In From The Outside

It’s one thing to criticize someone because of their choice of discount rugs in their home, but to criticize someone in the loss of their child is stupid. Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves and since Shellie knew a lot of people online it made sense to ask those people to pray for her son. I did.

A Florida mother is being criticized by bloggers and Twitter users for posting a tweet less than an hour after her 2-year-old son drowned in a swimming pool at her home.

Shellie Ross, a 38-year-old stay-at-home mother who lives outside Patrick Air Force Base, posted a message asking that people pray for her son after he had fallen into the family’s swimming pool on Monday.

If people spent half the energy they put into criticizing other people on being compassionate, they themselves would be much happier.

Taking A Night Off

I’m taking the night off to complete a big project I am working on. I’ll be back tomorrow, unless Swine Flu gets me.

Carly Fiorina Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Former Hewlett-Packard Co. Chief Executive Carly Fiorina has been diagnosed with breast cancer, a top aide said Tuesday.

Fiorina was diagnosed with the disease Feb. 20 and underwent surgery Monday at Stanford Hospital, her chief of staff, Deborah Bowker, told The Associated Press. Bowker said the surgery was successful and Fiorina has an “excellent” prognosis for a full recovery.

I hope she has a speedy and full recovery.

Beware Best Buy (Again)

My mother-in-law had one heck of a run-in with the sales staff at Best Buy.

They refused to exchange the camera. They informed my father-in-law that the camera was damaged, that it appeared it had been dropped, therefore they could not exchange it. They also tried to convince him that the photos we deleted were nothing but “demo” photos placed on the camera. If those were “demo” photos, I shutter to think what the “real” photos would have included. It was clear those photos were a demonstration of a twenty-something black woman’s body, not a camera’s ability to take photos.

Head on over to my main site, 101 Dead Armadillos, to read the rest.

The Watching Hour

Once again, it’s time to look for a new watch. I don’t know why, but I can’t get a watch to last more than a year if it’s attached to my wrist. Yeah, I am quite hard on watches, but Kenmar Watches makes it easy to find exactly the watches I would want to wear.

Whether it’s their Fossil watches, the Gucci’s, or my personal favorite, the Timberland styles, they have a nice assortment to look through. Their website makes it easy to choose too, because you can sort the watches by brand, style, price, or color.

My latest watch died a horrible death getting banged up while I was doing some yardwork. I totally forgot to take it off my wrist before I started working. I remembered real quick when I heard that ominous cracking sound as it was crushed.

Now I get to kick back and wait for my order to arrive. They offer fast shipping, which is good because I have no way of tracking the time until my new watch arrives.

The Renovations Starts… Soon

Sometimes you just have to take a break from tech and talk about the home life.

kitchen-style.jpgEver since I married my wife our living room walls have changed color five times. We redecorate rooms as we get a chance, changing everything from the paint and the furniture to the carpet and the shutters.

One of our favorite sites for finding those ‘hard to find’ items is InvitingHome.com. They have just about everything you can think of, whether you’re looking for that special wood molding or wall sconces for your hallway. One of their sites’ best features is their blog, which is broken down into specific categories, depending on what you are looking for.

Before I was laid off earlier this month, we had planned on doing a little renovation of our kitchen, to give us more room while we prepare meals, and to make it look more like a country kitchen. My wife loves all of the different decorative hardware to choose from, and will soon be drawing up the plans for the renovation.

Of course it will all have to wait until I am working again, but once I start getting that paycheck again you know where you will find us.
